Ms. Tawana Liz

Ms. Liz is an accomplished educational leader with a strong background in instructional support, school leadership, and service to military-connected communities. A native of Hampton Roads, Virginia, she is a former military child whose father served in the U.S. Air Force at Langley Air Force Base. She holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and American Studies from University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a Master’s degree in Education and Administration from Trinity Washington University.

Ms. Liz brings 14 years of experience in education and began her DoWEA career in 2018 after eight years with the District of Columbia Public Schools. She later served in the Fort Jackson (SC) community as a 4th-grade teacher, where she earned recognition for innovative instruction and strong student outcomes, including nominations for the DoWEA Southeast District Teacher of the Year in 2020 and 2021 and selection as a Finalist for the 2020 Dr. Linda L. Curtis Educator of Promise Award.

During her four years at Camp Lejeune (NC), Ms. Liz served as an Elementary Instructional Systems Specialist supporting all five elementary schools and as Assistant Principal at Heroes Elementary and Bitz Intermediate. She also contributed to key district and regional initiatives, including the Regional Literacy Committee, District HQIP team, Regional MTSS Committee, and the Mid-Atlantic Cognia Accreditation Team, reflecting her commitment to continuous improvement and instructional excellence.

Ms. Liz is known for building strong relationships with students, families, and staff and for fostering collaborative, student-centered school cultures. She is excited to join the Fort Bragg community and looks forward to serving the staff, students, and families of Gordon Elementary School. She will be joined at Fort Bragg by her husband, son, and daughter.
